Consumer Information on Two Businesses

May 8, 2008

I did it!!! I bought the big one! Today, i bought the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens!

I’m so excited about owning this lens, and no longer depending on borrowing this very important piece of equipment from the University. Hopefully, the work I get this summer will cover the cost of the costly equipment.

I was very excited so I had to share!!

PHOTOGRAPHERS: The important thing for you to note here is that I found a great photo supply company in my search for the best deal on this lens. Adray Camera Supply is a company out of Michigan and they have some of the best deals I found on a variety of camera equipment, and they have a superior reputation with the Better Business Bureau. Check them out at www.adraycamera.com.

IMPORTANT: In my search I also found a less than reputable business that I would like to warn everyone about! 1wayphoto.com offers some VERY low prices on a variety of camera equipment, but they have a very poor reputation. You can read this for yourself here at the Better Business Bureau website.

I hope this information is helpful!!!

  1. [...] Check out my “For Photographer’s” site for information on two companies I discovered in my search for this lens. One great company, and [...]

  2. Hello Sarah Jane,

First (a little bit late but better late than never) want to congratulate you with your lens.
I’m about to buy that same lens (I don’t know if you have the IS version but that’s the one I want) but when I surf the Internet I read a lot of “negative” reactions about this lens (comparing to it’s little f4 brother). Can you tell me what you think of this lens. I now own a 5D with the 70-300 DO IS lens but when I want to take some actionphotos of my daughter’s swim competition (indoor) I have to use my flash and can therefor not take any photo’s of the startdive.
So please let me know your findings about this lens.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Abi Merfol

    • Hello Abi, I LOVE this lens (I do not have the IS version). The f4 is a great lens as well but since I could only afford one my choice was VERY easy. I needed/wanted the f2.8. I am beginning to primarily shoot weddings and forfeiting the extra stop was not an option for me. I have NEVER heard any owner of this lens regret the purchase of the 2.8, however I have a couple friends who chose the f4 for cost reasons and ended up wishing they had bought the 2.8 instead. Hope that is helpful :)

  3. Hello Sarah Jane,
Thanks for your reply. It certainly helped me with the decision which one to buy. Indeed it is a very expensive lens and therefor I want to bu sure that when I will buy this lens it would be (must be) worth it. But reading your comment I’m almost sure I will gonna buy it. I’m not a professional shooter like you are (I’ve just visited your site) and the main reason I need the lens is that I want to shoot indoor swimcompetition photos with no flash. So… Do you know some sites where I can find some indoor sport shoots?
Again thanks for your reply and I will let you know when I’ve bought the lens.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Abi Merfol

  4. I bought the “big boy” too, and I’m very excited. I’ve been wanting this lense for a lo-o-ong time, and finally got enough wedding money to get one. I shoot weddings and wanted this to do a better job.

Coming tomorrow. I may stay out of work so I can see the truck bring it in!!!
